Additions Highlight Athletic Communications Restructure
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Office of Athletic Communications added Erin Neri to its staff and announced the recent hire of Griffin Whitmer. The pair is part of restructure within Athletic Communications and its sport assignments.

Neri was appointed Associate Director and will serve as the primary contact for men's soccer, women's basketball and tennis. A native of Nutley, New Jersey, Neri spent the previous two years at Towson University, where she worked with the Tigers' women's basketball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, cross country/track & field and tennis programs. During her time at Towson, the Tigers' women's basketball program enjoyed its most successful season in school history, eclipsing 24 wins and earning its first WNIT bid since 1969.
Neri graduated from Penn State in 2020 with her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. During her time in State College, Neri worked in the Nittany Lion's athletic communications office as the primary student contact for PSU's nationally-ranked men's tennis program and assisted with communication efforts for Penn State's men's and women's ice hockey, football, men's lacrosse and women's basketball teams.

A Rutgers graduate, Whitmer returned to Piscataway this past spring as Communications Coordinator and serves as the primary contact for baseball and women's golf, while also assisting with the department's football communications efforts. Whitmer previously worked at the University of Washington, where he joined as a graduate assistant in February 2021 and was the primary contact for the baseball program. He moved to the role of Communications Assistant in the summer of 2021, continuing his work with the baseball team and also acting as the media contact for both men's and women's soccer, softball and gymnastics.
A native of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Whitmer graduated from Rutgers in 2020 with his bachelor's degree in sport management. Whitmer also earned a M.Ed. in intercollegiate athletic leadership from Washington in 2021. During his time as an undergraduate, Whitmer was an associate sports editor at the Daily Targum and interned with Rutgers Athletics in both communications and marketing.
Along with the additions of Neri and Whitmer, Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Communications Officer Hasim Phillips announced the promotion of several staffers as part of the department's restructure. Jimmy Gill and Kimberly Zivkovich were both elevated to Associate Athletic Director, while Matt Choquette, Bradly Derechailo and Jordan Ozer were named Director of Communications.
