BOSTON — Rutgers men's tennis alumni Harry Cicma took part in the 127th annual Boston Marathon on Monday. The four-year letterwinner was one of nearly 30,000 athletes from more than 100 countries to run in the world's oldest marathon, finishing in 5:40:57.
Prior to the race, Cicma was honored by the Greek Consulate in Boston for the $8,500 that he raised through the 26.2 Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to investing in programs that promote education, fitness, and health. The money raised by Cicma will be donated towards underprivileged youth in the United States, Greece, and the Alpha Omega Organization.
Cicma graduated from Rutgers in 2004, where he spent his four years 'On the Banks' as a member of the men's tennis team. The Varsity R member also worked for WRSU-FM and RUTV. Following his graduation, he began a professional tennis career where he was ranked on the ATP World Tour in the Professional Rankings in doubles for four years.
Following the conclusion of his playing career, Cicma transitioned into a career in sports entertainment, currently working as a sports anchor for NBC. He has also served as the host and executive producer of "World Tennis with Harry Cicma" for NESN and has announced tennis on a plethora of TV networks. In 2014, the Rutgers alumni won an Emmy Award with NBC for his on-air reporting during Hurricane Sandy and was inducted into the Greek Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
