Chop4Change: Fifth Annual Coat Drive

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – As part of Chop4Change and in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers football's fifth annual coat drive took place this fall with backing from student-athletes and staff. The Scarlet Knights will provide 500 new coats to elementary and middle school children throughout the state of New Jersey.

Macy's is proud to support Chop4Change for the fifth consecutive year with discounted coats and Macy's gift cards.

To support this program, Rutgers football student-athletes will visit Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, on Saturday, Dec. 7 to help distribute 100 coats to children (K-8) from local Newark schools.

Additionally, in collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health's community outreach teams, the remaining 400 coats are being donated to non-profit organizations affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch and Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth.

Chop4Change has purchased and donated over 1,500 winter coats the previous four years. The initiative also distributed 400 $200 ShopRite gift cards for Easter dinner, dispensed 150 headsets for children to learn at home during the pandemic, delivered school supplies to elementary schools previously attended by players, supported veteran groups and hosted CPR and AED training for youth football coaches. Overall, the program has raised over $450,000 since 2020.
