No. 9 Rowing Wins Three Big Ten Boats of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – No. 9 Rutgers rowing's Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and 2nd Varsity 4 have been named Big Ten Boats of the Week for their performances at the Big Ten Ivy Dustup on Saturday on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
 
Under a new format this season, the Big Ten will honor one boat each from four categories - Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Additional Boat of the Week. This week's honors mark the 11th, 12th, and 13th Big Ten Boats of the Week for the program since its first appearance in the conference's weekly awards in 2018.

The Rutgers V8 beat out No. 14 Ohio State by 17 seconds and won a race against No. 11 Penn by eight seconds at the Dustup. The boat posted the second fastest time of the day in the morning session (only behind No. 6 Yale) and posted the fastest time of the day in the afternoon session. The boat included Hannah Heideveld, Kate Pitzel, Chiara Saccomando, Lily Wood, Elli Arbogast, Lauren Andersen, Ruby Hatfield, Louise Dinard and coxswain Victoria Grieder.

The 2V8 finished ahead of Ohio State by 17 seconds and won a race against Penn by eight seconds at the Dustup. The boat posted the second fastest time of the day in the morning session (only behind No. 6 Yale) and posted the second fastest time of the day in the afternoon session. Included in the boat were Emily Szopa, Mary Ciardiello, Karolina Matracz, Beatrice Colclough, Jazmine Ingall, Vanessa Karayiannis, Femke de Witt, Sofia Ulinski, and coxswain Alesandra Chester.

The 2V4 outraced Ohio State by 28 seconds (Abigail Franks, Ciara Butler, Elena Moran, Louise Liemberg and coxswain Alana Prawl) and won the race against Penn by 22 seconds (Olivia Elliott, Ciara Butler, Elizabeth Enriquez, Louise Liemberg, and coxswain Meghan Mangan).

The three Big Ten Boats of the Week helped Rutgers rise to No. 9 in this week's Pocock CRCA Poll and No. 10 in the JRN Media Poll.

Rutgers returns to the water on Sat., March 29 for the Doc Hosea Invitational on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill beginning at 8 a.m.
