Marco Battaglia joined the R Fund staff as Director of Athletic Development, Major Gifts in the spring of 2014. With Marco's long history on the banks he brings passion and experience back to Rutgers athletics. His primary responsibilities will be to enhance donor relationships and produce revenue from major gift prospects. Marco will assist in implementing our Varsity R Letter winner program, an initiative that will focus on reconnecting letter winners from all 24 varsity sports to Rutgers.
Marco concluded his collegiate career as one the most decorated players in Rutgers football. As a senior, the Rutgers tight end was a consensus All-American, earning first team recognition from the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Football News, Pro and College Football News Weekly, and the United Press International. Marco led the nation's tight ends with 69 catches for 894 yards and 10 touchdowns and was named the "Offensive Player of the Year" in the BIG EAST Conference in his senior year. As a junior, he was the BIG EAST leading receiver with 58 catches for 779 yards. Appearing in all 44 games (1992-1995), making 32 starts, he was the all-time leading receiver in Rutgers football history with 171 receptions upon conclusion of his career. Marco went on to play eight years in the National Football League, and was a member of the 2004 Carolina Panthers' Super Bowl team. He was an All-New York City and All-State player at St Francis Prep which played in two consecutive NYC Catholic League championship games.
In 2007 Marco became a member of the Rutgers Athletic Hall of Fame
In 2008 Sports Illustrated recognized Marco as being the top tight end in the decade of the 90's in their publication of "The College Football Book."
Marco is a native of Queens, NY and resides there with his wife Maria, daughter Ava and son Marco.
