For team sports : Rutgers coaching staff members may not organize, observe or participate in practice or workouts during the summer except as for the safety exception and required summer athletic activities in basketball and football.

For individual sports : Student-athletes may workout and/or practice with Rutgers coaching staff as long as all activity is voluntary and initiated by the student-athlete.

For all sports : Coaching staff and strength and conditioning staff may provide student-athletes with suggested workout programs. However, student-athletes may not submit summer workout logs or progress reports to any staff member. In addition, student-athletes may not be penalized for not participating in summer activities or rewarded specifically for participating.

Strength and Conditioning Coaches -- Student-athletes may participate in voluntary conditioning activities in the presence of a strength coach, who may monitor, conduct, supervise or assist student-athletes in these activities. Summer conditioning drills may simulate game activities provided no offensive or defensive alignments are set up and no equipment related to the sport is used.

Sport Specific Staff Members -- Staff members with sport specific responsibilities (Director of Operations, etc.) may not observe or direct student-athletes participating in voluntary activities at any time, including vacation periods.

Student-Athlete Facility Use -- Student-athletes may continue to use Rutgers facilities during the summer vacation period on a voluntary basis dependent upon availability for voluntary activities.

Prospective Student-Athletes -- Incoming student-athletes (with the exception of football) who have signed an NLI, scholarship agreement, or have paid their financial deposit in response to an offer of admission may participate in voluntary weight lifting and conditioning workouts conducted by a strength and conditioning coach.

Safety Exception -- In the sports of gymnastics, rowing, swimming/diving, track (field events only), and wrestling, a coach may be present during any voluntary individual workout session in Rutgers' regular practice facilities when the student-athlete uses equipment associated with their sport for safety monitoring purposes only.
