Carey Loch is in her fifth season with Rutgers Athletics and currently serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Success. She joined Rutgers Athletics in July 2021 after more than two decades of leadership experience across alumni relations and student affairs, bringing deep institutional knowledge, a student-centered approach, strong cross-campus relationships, and extensive experience planning and leading complex event initiatives.
In her role, Loch leads life skills and leadership development programming designed to support the holistic growth of student-athletes on and off the field. She oversees the design and delivery of comprehensive education initiatives that emphasize personal enrichment, career readiness, and community engagement. Loch also builds and manages strategic partnerships and external collaborations that expand learning opportunities, empower student-athletes with practical tools, and foster meaningful pathways for professional development and service.
A cornerstone of Loch’s work in Athletics has been the creation of Scarlet Knights For Life™, a comprehensive, student-athlete–centered initiative designed to support lifelong connection, personal development, and career readiness. Through intentional programming, one-on-one advising, and collaboration across campus and with external partners, Scarlet Knights For Life equips student-athletes with practical tools to navigate college, prepare for life after sport, and remain connected to Rutgers well beyond their playing careers.
Through the breadth of initiatives she has led, Loch has developed strong capabilities in strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and change management. She has a demonstrated ability to assess operations, redesign processes, and align people and resources to advance mission-driven goals. A collaborative and optimistic problem-solver, Loch leads with purpose, accountability, and a commitment to excellence in both outcomes and execution.
Central to Loch’s leadership approach is her ability to build authentic, visible, and lasting connections across diverse stakeholders. Throughout her career, she has intentionally united individuals, teams, and community partners around shared goals—creating inclusive environments where people feel valued, engaged, and inspired to contribute. She deeply believes in the transformative power of positive, well-designed experiences to strengthen belonging, trust, and long-term impact for individuals and the communities they serve.
Prior to joining Athletics, Loch served in the Rutgers University Division of Student Affairs as Director of Major Events and Programs. In that role, she cultivated internship programs and student leadership training for skill development, teambuilding, and event logistics, while establishing a broad network of university and external partners. She oversaw a budget supporting more than 150 events annually that reached over 80,000 attendees and implemented assessment strategies to measure and demonstrate program effectiveness. Her work included directing a major component of New Student Orientation that served more than 7,000 first-year and transfer students each year and supporting the expansion of Rutgers University Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropic event in New Jersey, to broaden the participant base and elevate fundraising efforts from roughly $600,000 to over $1 million.
Loch began her Rutgers career in 1999 in the Department of Alumni Relations, where she progressed from alumni relations officer to coordinator of special events and later associate director of special events. During her tenure, she planned and led alumni engagement programs for Rutgers’ five bowl game appearances from 2005–09, launched a new gala-style format for the Hall of Distinguished Alumni Awards, and oversaw the Regional Club program consisting of more than 20 national and international alumni clubs.
As a leader, mentor, and advisor, Loch is keenly aware of the complex challenges individuals face as they balance personal, professional, and financial responsibilities. These experiences have shaped her commitment to meeting people where they are and designing programs and services that promote confidence, resilience, and long-term success. She brings a proven record of building and leading high-performing teams, maximizing resources, and leveraging relationships to achieve meaningful and measurable results.
A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Loch earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice and a Master of Public Administration. She and her husband, Michael, are the proud parents of Tesla, Colin, and Brody.
