No. 23 Women's Soccer Edged by Iowa, 1-0
Oct 05 | Women's Soccer
IOWA CITY, IOWA – Despite six saves for redshirt junior Casey Murphy in the match, No. 23 Rutgers women's soccer was edged by Iowa, 1-0, on the road Thursday night.
Rutgers (9-2-2, 3-2-1 Big Ten) and Iowa (6-5-1, 1-3-1 Big Ten) played through an even first half, as Murphy and Iowa's goalkeeper Claire Graves each posted two saves to keep the score 0-0 at halftime.
Although Rutgers would find the back of the net in the 52nd minute, the goal would later be called back due to an offside on the Scarlet Knights.
In the 60th minute, Iowa took a 1-0 lead after Hawkeye Devin Burns shot from 18-yards out, sneaking the ball by an outstretched Murphy into the upper left corner.
The Scarlet Knights tallied a couple shots on goal throughout the remainder of the contest, as shots for sophomores Nicole Whitley and Carina Hendley were saved by Iowa's Graves. Rutgers never relented though. With a corner kick in the 89th minute, sophomore midfielder Amanda Visco fired off a shot. However, it would go just high of the cross bar.
Up next, Rutgers travels to Nebraska for a Sunday match. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
