Tennis Downs Binghamton, 6-1, in Midweek Match

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers tennis delivered a 6-1 victory over Binghamton Wednesday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. The Scarlet Knights had five singles victories and swept the doubles point for the convincing win.
RU's next six matches are on the road, as Rutgers does not compete in a home match until April 7 against Michigan.
"Today we started slow, but we worked our way into the match and forced ourselves to play smart tennis," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "It was an important win for us since we are now on the road for the next few weeks."
The Scarlet Knights opened the match with two wins in doubles play. Junior Mingxiu Du and freshman Katherine Muzik downed Olga Ostrovetsky and Paulina Tafler, 6-3, in the No. 2 position. Senior Farris Cunningham and freshman Jacqueline Cochrane also contributed a victory in No. 3 doubles against Rebecca Dellaway and Allison Roma, 6-3.
Muzik added her team-leading fifth singles win of the year, as the Mableton, Georgia, native defeated Ostrovetsky, 7-6 (2-0), 6-0. Du contributed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Samara Eisenberg in the No. 2 position, her third victory of the season.
Cunningham and junior Chloe Lee also collected their third wins on the year. Cunningham won, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position, while Lee defeated Dellaway, 6-2, 6-0. Cochrane won in her No. 5 singles bout, 6-1, 6-2, against Tafler.
Rutgers returns to action next week with a pair of matches on its annual spring break trip, this year to Las Vegas. The Scarlet Knights see Bradley (March 14) and Big Ten foe Indiana (March 16) during on the trip.
