Football Falls to No. 11 Ohio State

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (1-4, 0-2) fell to No. 11 Ohio State (4-1, 2-0), 56-0, on Saturday night at High Point Solutions Stadium. The Scarlet Knights have now played two teams ranked in the top 20 of this week's Associated Press Top 25.

Despite Rutgers holding Ohio State to a three-and-out on its opening drive, the Buckeyes would score on its following drive for a 7-0 lead five minutes into the contest. As the RU offense was unable to counter, the Scarlet Knights kept it a one-possession game at the end of the opening stanza. However, OSU would break away on the scoreboard with four touchdowns in the second quarter and three more across the second half for the game's final margin.

Rutgers enters a bye this upcoming week before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Illinois. Kickoff time will be determined at a later date.

Notes
  • Robert Martin became the 14th player in school history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards with a 17-yard carry in the first quarter.
  • Rashad Blunt made his collegiate debut, making him the 41st player to see the field for the first time as a Scarlet Knight this season.
