#14 Rutgers Women’s Soccer Hits Road for George Mason and #15 Georgetown

Scarlet Knights set for first two road tests of the season

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Following a five game homestand, the No. 14 Rutgers women's soccer team hits the road for its first away contests of the season. RU first visits George Mason on Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights are then set for a 2016 NCAA Tournament Second Round rematch with No. 15 Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.

RUTGERS QUICK KICKS
  • Rutgers (5-0-0) has registered five straight shutouts at home to open the season. The Scarlet Knights topped Mount St. Mary's (7-0) on Thursday before defeating Drexel (2-0) on Sunday.
  • Freshman forward Amirah Ali earned Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after recording a career-high two goals in the win over the Mountaineers. Ali leads the team with four goals, ranking tied for fourth in the Big Ten and 26th in the NCAA.
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Casey Murphy leads the Big Ten and is second in the country with five shutouts this season. The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy candidate is also tied for first in the nation with a Big Ten leading 0.00 GAA.
  • Rutgers is one of five programs in the nation that has not allowed an opponent goal this season. The squad is tied for first place in the NCAA in GAA (0.00) and shutout percentage (1.000).
  • The Scarlet Knights lead the league with 18 total goals across its first five games, while also tied for sixth in the NCAA.
  • Rutgers is ranked in the Top 25 of all three major polls, including No. 14 by United Soccer Coaches, No. 16 by Soccer America and No. 14 by Top Drawer Soccer.
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
  • George Mason (0-5-0) dropped a pair of contests over the weekend. The team first dropped its contest to then-No. 18 Wake Forest (4-0) before falling short to Maryland in overtime (2-1).
  • Daniela Neves and Rebecca Callison have each added a goal this season.
  • Morgan Symmers and Louisa Moser have split time in net, as Symmers leads the way with 270:00 minutes and nine saves.
  • The Patriots finished fifth in the Atlantic 10 Conference last season, registering an overall mark of 13-7-1 and league record of 6-3-1.
SERIES VS. THE PATRIOTS
  • George Mason leads Rutgers in the all-time series, 9-4-2, dating back to 1985. The teams last met in 2000, when the Patriots earned a 3-0 win.  
SCOUTING NO. 15 GEORGETOWN
  • Georgetown (4-2-0) split its games over the weekend, falling to then-No. 5 Stanford (4-0) before topping San Jose State (3-0).
  • Rachel Corboz paces the Hoyas with nine points, including a team-high three goals and three assists.
  • Caitlin Farrell has also contributed three goals this season. Overall, eight different Hoyas have added a goal.  
  • In net, Arielle Schechtman owns a 0.79 GAA across six games, including 14 saves.
  • Last season, Georgetown won the BIG EAST Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history. The Hoyas fell to eventual national champion Southern California, 1-0, in the semifinals.
  • Georgetown will host St. Francis (PA) on Friday, Sept. 8.
SERIES VS. THE HOYAS
  • Rutgers leads the series with Georgetown, 12-7-1. The teams last met in the 2016 NCAA Tournament Second Round, when the Hoyas edged out a 2-0 victory over the Scarlet Knights en route to a Final Four appearance.
