Goalkeeper will return to NWSL and Sky Blue FC in June
MONTPELLIER, FRANCE – Following selection into the National Women's Soccer League as the 13th overall pick by Sky Blue FC, goalkeeper Casey Murphy has signed a professional contract with Montpellier Hérault Sport Club of France, the club announced Friday.
Following her international stint, Murphy will return from overseas to the NWSL and Sky Blue FC in June.
Montpellier competes in the Division 1 Féminine, the highest division of women's soccer in France. The club also competes in the Coupe de France Féminine, a cup competition exclusive for French women's football clubs, and the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Women's Champions League. Murphy becomes the third American in the history of MHSC.
In the NWSL College Draft, the Bridgewater, New Jersey, native was selected as the third pick of round two by local New Jersey program Sky Blue FC. Murphy joins numerous former Scarlet Knights on the roster, including Madison Tiernan, Erica Skroski and Cassidy Benintente, and most recently traded to the club, Carli Lloyd. The group will be led by first-year head coach Denise Reddy, a Rutgers alumna as well.
