Tyia Singleton, ESPN Hoopgurlz' No. 18 Post Player, To Compete For National HS Title
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Incoming Rutgers forward Tyia Singleton will be in New York City as her Winter Haven High School team plays in the GEICO High School Basketball Nationals. Games will take place at Christ the King High School in Queens, New York and air on ESPNU and ESPN2.
Nicknamed "Slim", Singleton is a 6-2 forward ranked the No. 18 post player in the nation according to ESPN Hoopgurlz. She is currently averaging 6.9 points and 13.3 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils.
As a junior last season, Singleton put away 6.2 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. During her sophomore campaign, she helped the Blue Devils to the Class 7A state championship.
"She is a tenacious competitor that comes ready for every game and leaves it all out on the court," said Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringer of the future Scarlet Knight upon her signing with Rutgers. "Slim will add an extra dimension to our game by adding length and helping to stretch the floor. She has the ability to finish around the rim, hit the 15-foot jumper or put the ball on the floor. She is also an exceptional rebounder. Slim has grown as a player over the years and we believe her heart and skill brings great promise to the Scarlet Knights."
