Jones Receives BIG EAST Football Weekly Honors

Jones, who hails from Scotch Plains, N.J., set the tone for the Scarlet Knights’ game at Tennessee when he returned the opening kickoff of the game 100 yards for a touchdown in RU's 35-14 loss in Knoxville. The junior defensive back recorded the longest kickoff return in school history, and also tied five other players as the best in the BIG EAST record book. Jones finished the game with two returns for 114 yards.
Jones is averaging 33.2 yards per kick return on five kickoffs for the Scarlet Knights. Also a starter at cornerback, Jones is second on the team with 39 tackles. He has intercepted one pass, has broken up three passes and recovered two fumbles.
Jones shares Special Teams “Player of the Week” honors in the BIG EAST with Jamel Riddle of Syracuse.
Following a bye week, the Scarlet Knights return to action on Oct. 12 when it hosts West Virginia at Rutgers Stadium. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
