Rutgers Sweeps Second Day of FAU Tournament

The tournament, in Boca Raton, FL, began yesterday with the Scarlet Knights falling to No. 1 UCLA in the first game of the tournament, 8-1 before winning 3-1 against FAU, ranked 28th nationally coming into the weekend.
The Scarlet Knights scored the first run of the first game against the Badgers when Jenny Card's (Miami, FL) double to left center sent Courtney Love (Seabrook, TX) home in the first inning.
There was an offensive spark in the second inning that started when Jen Jacoby (Agoura Hills, CA) hit a double on which Megan Antonucci (Warrington, PA) and Helen Smith (Tucson, AZ) scored, making it a 3-0 game. Jacoby and Brittney Neer (Tallahassee, FL) scored on a hit to left field by Meaghan Asselta (Ramsey, NJ) to get two more runs before the inning ended.
Brielle Cosentino (Carlstadt, NJ) pitched all seven innings, improving her record to 2-1 with three strikeouts, allowing the Badgers only one run in the third inning.
Card started up the offense again in the second game, hitting a double just inside of the fence to send Asselta home. Christina Gillman (Valencia, CA), in her second start this season, avoided the Golden Panthers catching up by striking out Kristen Perry with the bases loaded to end the inning. Gillman pitched four innings before Andria Koehler (Sellersville, PA) relieved her in the fifth, getting her first save of the season. Gillman got her first win of the season with six strikeouts and no hits. Koehler only allowed three hits.
Neer scored the second run of the game in the third inning off a hit by Asselta and Nichole Cruz (Bremerton, WA) scored in the fourth on a bunt from Neer to make it 3-0.
The Scarlet Knights will head into tomorrow's final game with a 3-1 record for the Tournament. They will play a team to be determined at the close of the day's games. The first and second seeds in the tournament will play at 1 p.m., the third and fourth will play at 11 a.m. and five will compete against the sixth ranked team at 9 a.m.
