PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers gymnastics team named junior Caitlin Wight (Washington, PA) the team’s most valuable gymnast for the 2003 season. Senior Bonnie Hart (Oakridge, NJ) received the Noble Award, while classmate Kristen Marino (Hillsborough, NJ) was named the most improved gymnast.
Wight was named the Northeast region’s alternate for floor and beam at the NCAA Regional Championship. She was named to the All-EAGL Floor second team after leading the Scarlet Knights with a 9.810 regional qualifying score (RQS), also carrying a beam RQS of 9.755. A member of the EAGL All-Academic squad, she had the Scarlet Knights’ top finish on floor at the EAGL Championship (March 28), scoring a 9.775 to tie for 20th.
Hart was honored with the Noble Award, given annually to the gymnast who displays outstanding athletic ability, consistency, sportsmanship and dedication to the team. Hart spent the 2003 season as a student assistant coach after an injury in preseason. By mid-season, Hart returned to the bars, performing exhibition in the final three meets of the season. In 2003, Hart received her third naming to the EAGL All-Academic Team.
Marino was named the team’s most improved gymnast after representing
the Scarlet Knights at the NCAA Northeast Regional as the individual qualifier
for both vault and bars. A two-time EAGL Specialist of the Week, Marino was
a unanimous selection to the All-EAGL Bars first team. She holds the second
and third-best scores all time for vault. She scored a 9.850 in the event twice,
also posting a 9.825 three times. She also tied the third-best score for bars,
earning a 9.925 against Bridgeport and Temple
