Rutgers Falls to Temple 71-60

PHILADELPHIA, PA - A furious rally late in the second half wasn’t enough as the No. 20/24 Rutgers women’s basketball team (5-2) dropped a 71-60 decision at Temple (5-3) Dec. 13.
The Owls were staked to a 21-point (61-40) lead, their largest of the game, with 6:18 remaining, but the Scarlet Knights put together a 12-1 run to get back within striking distance at 62-52 with 4:04 on the clock. RU would get as close as nine points (67-58, 0:51), but Temple scored its final 11 points from the charity stripe, as Rutgers was whistled for 27 fouls compared to the Owls’ 11 and Temple took 29 more free throws (41-12) than the Scarlet Knights.
Freshman Matee Ajavon (Newark, NJ) scored a team-high 18 points off the bench, adding five rebounds. Junior Michelle Campbell (Princeton, NJ) had 12 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Rutgers will play its final game before the Christmas break Saturday, Dec. 18, when the Scarlet Knights host Clemson at 1:00 p.m. The contest will be carried live on Fox Sports Net New York, WCTC 1450 AM, WMTR 1250 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM, and a live feed of the radio broadcast will be available on www.scarletknights.com.
