Old Dominion Hands Rutgers First Loss, 69-61

NORFOLK, VA (Ticker) -- Shareese Grant and Lawona Davis helped prevent Vivian Stringer from recording her 700th career victory.
Grant and Davis combined to make 27-of-28 free throws as Old Dominion used a strong performance from the line to upset No. 19 Rutgers, 69-61.
Grant made just 2-of-12 shots but finished with 21 points after going 17-of-18 from the line. Davis shot just 2-of-6 but made all 10 of her free throws to score 14 points.
T.J. Jordan added 17 points off the bench for the Lady Monarchs (3-1), who shot only 33 percent (17-of-51) but connected on 86 percent from the line (31-of-36), including 25-of-29 in the second half.
Stringer was hoping to become the fourth women's coach to win 700 games, but her Scarlet Knights did not take advantage of their strong defensive showing, shooting just 39 percent (22-of-56).
Nikki Jett scored 13 points and Michelle Campbell 12 for Rutgers (4-1), which made just 13-of-22 free throws.
