Ajavon Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers' Matee Ajavon (Newark, NJ) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the league office has announced.
Ajavon, a 5-8 guard, averaged 20.7 points and shot 63.6 (28-44) percent from the field in three games last week. Against Pittsburgh Jan. 11, she had game highs of 24 points and six assists, while in a victory against Pittsburgh Jan. 13, she contributed 18 tallies. In a two-point loss at No. 5/5 Ohio State Jan. 16, Ajavon contributed a team-best 20 points and five steals.
This marks the third time this season Ajavon has been singled out as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week (Dec. 18, Jan. 3).
No. 6 Rutgers (12-3, 3-0 BIG EAST) will host Providence Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be shown on a tape-delayed basis on Patriot Media, and the game will be carried live on WCTC 1450 AM, WMTR 1250 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM.
