Pondexter Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named to the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, the league office announced Nov. 28.
The 5-9 guard was named the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division Most Valuable Player Nov. 25-26 on Grand Bahama Island. She scored 20 points, shooting 8-for-12 (.667) from the floor and 3-for-3 (1.000) from behind the arc, in RU’s season opener against North Florida Nov. 25, then tallied 24 points (7-7 at the line), three assists and three steals in the championship game against N.C. State Nov. 26. For the tournament, Pondexter averaged 22.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game, shooting 55.2 (16-29) percent from the field, 80.0 (4-5) percent from behind the arc and 1.000 (8-8) percent from the line.
No. 6/7 Rutgers (2-0) will play its first home game of the 2005-2006 regular season, hosting Bethune-Cookman (1-0) Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. The game will serve as Poster Day at the RAC.
