Rutgers Defeats St. Thomas Aquinas in Exhibition, 78-44

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Senior forward Michelle Campbell scored 17 points and freshman center Kia Vaughn (Bronx, NY) added 16 points and seven rebounds as No. 7/7 Rutgers defeated Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 78-44, in an exhibition game Sunday at the Louis Brown Athletic Center
RU took a six-point lead into the break, 36-30, and stormed out of the locker room with a 22-6 run.
The Scarlet Knights outscored the Lady Spartans 42-14 in the second half and went on to an easy 78-44 victory. RU spread the ball around effectively on offense and finished the game with four players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Matee Avajon (Newark, NJ) with 11 points, freshman forward Sammeika Thrash (Birmingham, AL) with 13 points.
The Lady Spartans were paced for most of the first and second halves by the sharp shooting of Kelly McManus, who shot 6-12 on the game from three-point range; however, it was not enough to quiet the Rutgers attack. McManus finished the game with 20 points for Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
While the exhibition did not count towards the win-loss record of Rutgers, it served as a tune-up for the Scarlet Knights' next game - a showdown with the Longhorns of Texas on Dec. 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Louis Brown Athletic Center. The game will also be broadcast live on College Sports Television (CSTV).
