Rutgers Women's Tennis Defeats Lehigh, 5-2

BETHLEHEM, PA – Rutgers won four of six singles matches and all three doubles contests to defeat Lehigh, 5-2, in women’s tennis action on Friday afternoon in Bethlehem, PA.
Katrina Elder-Bush and Alina Balasa got the Scarlet Knights started with a 8-4 victory at first doubles, followed by a gritty 9-7 win from Jill Makowitz and Lauren Edelschein at second doubles. Helen Magomedova and Alina Balasa completed the sweep with a 8-3 decision at third doubles.
In singles action, Elder-Bush prevailed 6-3, 7-6, while Dujsic outlasted Lehigh’s Lindsey Long, 7-6, 6-3. Rutgers clinched the victory with Balasa and Magomedova pulling out straight-set decisions at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
“Taking the doubles point really help us early on,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “Leigh was ready to play and we needed the seize the early momentum. That carried over in the singles play and I thought we did a great job of rising to the challenge.”
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Sunday, February 13, when they face Richmond in Princeton, NJ.
