Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers' Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the group announced Feb. 21. This marks the second time this season that Pondexter has been singled out by the conference (Jan. 31).
A 5-9 senior guard, Pondexter helped lead the Scarlet Knights to a pair of BIG EAST victories last week. In a 64-54 win at Syracuse Feb. 16, she had a game-best 25 points, shooting 9-for-12 (.750) from the field and 3-for-4 (.750) from three-point range in 29 minutes of action. In the 59-48 triumph against No. 5/7 Notre Dame Feb. 19, Pondexter scored 12 of her 13 points in the first half on a 5-for-5 effort from the field. She also tallied four rebounds and two assists against the Fighting Irish. For the week, she averaged 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, shooting 14-for-19 (.737) from the field and 5-for-7 (.714) from beyond the arc.
No. 10 Rutgers (20-5, 11-2 BIG EAST) will play its final home game of the season Tuesday, Feb. 22, when RU hosts No. 25 Boston College at 7:30 p.m. The game will be carried live on WCTC 1450 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM.
