No. 11 Rutgers Cruises Past Seton Hall 67-40

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A resounding second-half run helped propel No. 11/11 Rutgers (17-5, 8-2 BIG EAST) to a 67-40 victory at Seton Hall (13-9, 5-6 BIG EAST) Feb. 9.
Leading by eight at halftime (31-23) and by six (33-27, 18:10) early in the second half, the Scarlet Knights put together the 24-6 spurt during the next 12:17. Freshman Matee Ajavon (Newark, NJ) scored the first seven points of the run, and redshirt senior Nikki Jett (Columbia, SC) added two three-pointers to put the game away for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers shot a season-best 53.7 (29-54) percent from the floor, and the Scarlet Knights outscored the Pirates 30-16 in the paint and 16-0 in transition. RU registered its 14th game with 20 or more turnovers forced, turning the 20 Seton Hall miscues into 23 points.
Ajavon posted game highs of 13 points and six assists, followed closely by senior Cappie Pondexter's (Chicago, IL) 12 tallies, five assists and four steals. Rutgers' scoring was well balanced, as six Scarlet Knights scored six or more points in the contest. Redshirt junior Mariota Theodoris (Riviera Beach, FL) led the rebounding effort with a game-high eight caroms, while senior Chelsea Newton (Monroe, LA) contributed seven points and three steals in 21 minutes of action, her first since suffering an injury Jan. 30.
Rutgers will face No. 10/10 Connecticut for the second time in 11 days when the Scarlet Knights host the Huskies Sunday, Feb. 13. The game, already a sellout at the Louis Brown Athletic Center, is scheduled to tipoff at 5:00 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN2 and will be carried live on WCTC 1450 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM.
