Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ -Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Jan. 16.
A 5-9 guard, Pondexter poured in 40 points, hitting the game-winner with 8.2 seconds remaining, in Rutgers' 66-65 victory at South Florida Jan. 11. Her 40 points moved her into second place at Rutgers in career scoring, and she added a team-high four assists and grabbed five rebounds against the Bulls.
In a 63-41 win against Seton Hall Jan. 14, Pondexter posted 13 points, four assists and two steals.
Earlier this season, Pondexter was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week Jan. 2, and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll four times (Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, Jan. 9).
No. 10/9 Rutgers (12-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) will face its final non-conference challenge of the season Thursday, Jan. 19, when RU hosts No. 19/20 Temple at 7:00 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPNU, and will be carried live on WCTC 1450 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM.
