Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ - For the first time this season, Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Jan. 2.
The 5-9 guard, who was selected as the league's Preseason Player of the Year, led Rutgers with 22 points, five assists and three steals as RU defeated No. 19/23 Texas 63-49 Dec. 30. Playing 38 minutes without a turnover, she made 10 of 17 field goals while adding five rebounds.
Earlier this season, Pondexter was three times named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll (Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12).
No. 8/9 Rutgers (9-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) will start a three-game road trip Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Cincinnati (10-1, 0-0 BIG EAST).
