WASHINGTON, DC - No. 10/9 Rutgers improved to 15-3 overall and 7-0 in BIG EAST Conference play with a 65-51 victory at Georgetown (8-11, 1-7 BIG EAST) Jan. 28.
Another big run helped propel RU to the victory. Trailing 14-12 early in the first half (10:43), the Scarlet Knights scored 16 unanswered points to take a commanding 28-14 lead (4:13), and that lead dipped to nine just once during the game’s final 25 minutes.
As it has the previous two games, Rutgers’ defense set the tone, turning 24 turnovers into 25 points and holding Hoya leading scorer Kieraah Marlow (16.9 ppg) to 1-for-11 shooting from the field. Fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) led the scoring with her 24 tallies, adding four assists and three steals. Sophomore Essence Carson (Paterson, NJ) added 14 points, four assists and a game-high five steals, while redshirt senior Mariota Theodoris (Riviera Beach, FL) collected a team-best eight rebounds.
RU will host St. John’s Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be carried live on WRSU 88.7 FM, and a live stream of the audio, as well as live statistics, will be available via www.scarletknights.com.
