Pondexter Named to BIG EAST, MBWA Honor Rolls

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) was named to the BIG EAST Conference and the PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Honor Rolls Jan. 9.
The 5-9 guard scored 16 points while dishing a team-best four assists in Rutgers' 64-51 victory at Cincinnati Jan. 3, sinking seven of 14 (.500) attempts from the field. In RU's narrow 73-71 loss at No. 11/13 Michigan State Jan. 7, Pondexter poured in a game-high 24 points, tied for the team lead with five assists and pulled down six rebounds.
Earlier this season, Pondexter was three times named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll (Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12), and was acknowledged as the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Jan. 2.
No. 10/8 Rutgers (10-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) will finish a three-game road trip with a Jan. 11 contest at South Florida (11-4, 1-1 BIG EAST).
