Huhnerkoch Wins Rutgers Women's Golf Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -Sophomore Lauren Huhnerkoch (Burnsville, Minn.) won the Rutgers Women's Golf Invitational by one stroke with a score of 153 in the two-day tournament, held at the RU Golf Course.
As a team, the Scarlet Knight took tied for sixth place, moving up three spots from their position following the opening day of the invitational. Columbia University won the event with a score of 643, beating Bucknell by one stroke as the Bison finished second with a combined score of 644. Lehigh took third with a final score of 653.
Following day one, Huhnerkoch was in the top of the field, tied for eighth and was five shots out of the lead. In Saturday's final round, Huhnerkoch finished with a tournament-low 74 on the par-72 course to win the individual crown.
Senior captain Lauren Braswell (Basking Ridge, N.J.) also finished in the top 10, tying for eighth place with a combined score of 159. Braswell shot a 78 on Saturday, cutting three strokes off of her day-one total. Sophomore Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) finished 49th with a two-day score of 178, including an 84 in the final round, 10 strokes better than her round on Friday.
Finishing tied for 50th was senior captain Ashley Fowler (Scottsdale, Ariz.) with a 179 in the tournament, including an 84 in the final round, 11 shots better than her first-round 95. Junior Jen Rudy (Berlin, Conn.) took 59th in the tournament with a score of 186.
The RU Invite was the final tournament for the Scarlet Knights' fall season. Both the men's and women's teams will kick off the spring campaign with a training trip to Scottsdale, Ariz., from March 9-16, where Rutgers will play one match against Boston College.
