RU Men and Women Have Tough Losses at ITA Regionals

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's and women's tennis teams competed in ITA Regionals this past weekend. The women, who wrapped-up their 2006 fall schedule with the tournament, played at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H., while the men's tournament was held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.
For the women, Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) defeated Boston College's Brittany Delaney in a third-set replacing tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(2), in the first round of play. Arlak then fell to UMass's Masha Pozar in the second round, 6-0, 6-0. Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) beat SUNY Binghamton's Zeynep Altinay in a third-set replacing tiebreaker, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3. Elder-Bush then lost to Old Dominion's Charleen Haarhoff 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
In double's action, Dana Gordon-Hartman (Margate, N.J.) and Arlak defeated Delaware's Amanda Campbell and Susan Pollack, 8-6, but then lost to Harvard's Lena Litvak and Stephanie Schnitter in the second round, 8-2. Old Dominion's Haarhoff and Fernonda Luiz defeated Rutgers' Anela Dujsic (Mississauga, Ontario) and Elder-Bushin the first round, 8-2.
In singles action for the men, Arjun Vaidya (Pune, India) fell to Virginia Tech's Brandon Corace in a third-set replacing tiebreaker, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, in the first round. In doubles, Navy's Jason Hill and Nate Nelm's defeated the Scarlet Knight's Matt Fawcett (Brielle, N.J.) and Vaidya in the first round, 8-4.
The men wrap up their fall season at the Dartmouth Invitational from Saturday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 6.
