Rutgers Women's Tennis Recruit Signs National Letter of Intent

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's tennis team has announced the signing of Amy Zhang during the early signing period. The Texas native, ranked 63^rd in this year's recruiting class by TennisRecruiting.net, will join the Scarlet Knights for the 2007-08 campaign.

'Amy will be a great addition to our team,' said head coach Ben Bucca. 'She's a very talented player and is also a National Merit Semifinalist who is very dedicated to her academics.'

Zhang is a four-time Plano High School MVP and holds the fourth ranking in Texas and the 147^th slot nationally. As a junior, she won the regional tournament in addition to taking second at the district championships, and was named first team Texas All-Area. Zhang was also named the High Point Tennis Center Player of the Year in 2005 and was a Dallas Professional Tennis Association travel grant recipient.

In 2006, Zhang earned a number of sportsmanship awards, including the Children Helping Children Charity Tournament Sportsmanship Award and the Houston Super Champ Major Zone Sportsmanship Award. At the El Paso Girls 18s National Open in July, Zhang was also rewarded for her sportsmanship during the event.

Academically, Zhang is ranked in the top three-percent of her class and is a National Merit Semifinalst, which includes her score of a perfect 800 in the math component of the SAT. She is also an AP Scholar with Distinction and has been a member of the National Honor Society for four years.

In addition to be awarded an athletic scholarship, Rutgers University has awarded her a Presidential Academic scholarship.
