Rutgers Gives Back to Community

PISCATAWAY, N.J.  - Rutgers University women's basketball team members volunteered their time and skills to teach local schoolchildren this fall. Several members of the 2006-07 squad spread cheer to grade school children, continuing the rich tradition of RU support in the local community.

Sophomore Kia Vaughn and freshman Brittany Ray attended James Monroe School in Edison in late October, participating in 'Math Hoops Night.' The event - along with Vaughn and Ray- helped demonstrate how mathematics is a daily part of our lives, using basketball as an example.

Two freshmen learned the importance of Scarlet Knights in the community, paying a visit to High Road School in Parlin, N.J. Newcomers Dee Dee Jernigan and Myia McCurdy shot hoops with students, learning about the students and their love of the game.

Rutgers (18th AP/17th Coaches/ESPN) hosts No. 5/5 Duke on Monday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m at the Louis Brown Athletic Center. The game is part of the Jimmy V Classic and will be broadcast on ESPN.

The game will be carried on WCTC 1450 AM and WRSU 88.7 FM, and a live feed of the radio broadcast, as well as live statistics, will be available on www.scarletknights.com.
