PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Khadijah Rushdan (Wilmington, Del.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the women's basketball program at Rutgers University in the fall of 2007.
"We are delighted to have Khadijah join our program," Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringersaid. "She is an explosive guard who sees the floor well and excels at finishing around the basket."
Rushdan, a 5-9 guard from St. Elizabeth High School, entered her senior season ranked 10th by both Full Court Press and HoopGurlz on national recruiting lists. She was named to the 2006 EA Sports All-America first team and was a 2006 Street & Smith All-America third team selection. In addition, Rushdan was tabbed to the Parade All-American fourth team following her junior season and has earned a spot on the USA Today All-America team each of the past three years.
Rushdan was a key member of the 2006 USA Basketball U-18 National Team last summer. She helped the squad post a 4-0 record en route to the gold medal and qualification for the 2007 U-19 World Championships. Rushdan averaged six assists per game for Team USA, the best overall mark for the tournament and the most assists per game by an American ever in the event.
A four-time selection to the Delaware all-state first team and a two-time Delaware Player of the Year, Rushdan averaged 22.5 points, 18.0 rebounds and seven assists as a junior to lead St. Elizabeth to a 24-2 ledger and a number two state ranking. She has tallied over 1,900 points, 1,000 rebounds and 700 assists in her high school career and was the first player in Delaware history to be selected to the all-state first team as an eighth grader.
"Khadijah is a bright student who brings a high level of basketball intelligence to our program," Stringer adds. "Her flexibility to play the one, two, three or four positions is special."
Hall of Fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer and the No. 11/12 Scarlet Knights commence the 2006-07 season on Sunday, Nov. 12, against No. 9/9 Georgia at the State Farm Tip-off Classic in Norman, Okla. The game, scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. eastern start, will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
