Prince Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J .- Rutgers University guard Epiphanny Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) garnered her second BIG EAST Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week award, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In addition, Prince was named PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week also announced today by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. The weekly accolade is voted on by members of the media from across the region, and includes print and broadcast journalists from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Prince averaged 20 points last week in the Scarlet Knights' 2-0 week. The first-year player averaged 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals on the week in victories over Ole Miss and Iowa.
The Brooklyn, N.Y. product logged a single-game record of 51 minutes played in an 89-84 triple overtime win over Ole Miss on Dec. 12. Prince had 22 points and 10 rebounds, her first career double-double.
In a 70-53 win over Iowa on Dec. 16, Prince netted 18 points, to go along with six rebounds, six steals and four assists. She also earned BIG EAST freshman accolades on Nov. 20.
The rookie paces the Scarlet Knights in scoring (17.8), assists (3.9) and steals (3.2). Prince is ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring and first in swipes.
Rutgers (5-4) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 30 for a 2:00 p.m. contest at Old Dominion.
