Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has earned her fourth BIG EAST Conference Player-of-the-Week Award, the league office announced Feb. 13. In addition, she earned a spot on this week's PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Honor Roll.
On Feb. 7, the 5-9 guard scored a game-high 18 points to lead RU to a 60-56 upset victory at No. 4/3 Connecticut. Pondexter sank two free throws with 7.8 seconds remaining to seal Rutgers' first-ever win at UConn. She later posted a game-best 22 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists in a 54-41 victory at West Virginia Feb. 10. With her effort against the Mountaineers, Pondexter became just the second player in RU history to score 2,000 career points (2,008).
No. 7/8 Rutgers (19-3, 11-0 BIG EAST) will look to earn its 20th win of the season when the Scarlet Knights host Villanova (14-8, 5-6 BIG EAST) Tuesday, Feb. 14. Tipoff at the Louis Brown Athletic Center (8,000) will be at 7:30 p.m.
The game will be shown on a tape-delayed basis on Patriot cable systems, and will be carried live on the Rutgers Radio Network (WCTC 1450 AM and WMTR 1250 AM) and on Rutgers' student station, WRSU 88.7 FM.
