Women's Tennis Cruises Past Quinnipiac, 6-1

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Behind five singles victories, the Rutgers women’s tennis team defeated Quinnipiac, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Rutgers Tennis Complex in Piscataway. With the win, the Scarlet Knights run their winning streak to two matches and improve to 4-2 overall.
Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, MA) won a tight match against Gabby Pasternak at first singles, 6-4, 7-5, and freshman Dana Gordon (Margate, NJ) followed with a straight-set win at second singles. Jackie Herb of Quinnipiac picked up the Bobcats’ lone team point with a 6-1, 7-6 win at third singles, but Ketevan Shmakova (Dover, NJ), Anela Dujsic (Mississauga, Ontario) and Lauren Edelschein (Medford, NJ) followed with wins to clinch the match for RU.
In doubles play, Elder-Bush and freshman Polina Zaretser (Brooklyn, NY) earned an 8-4 win at second doubles and Jill Markowitz (Forest Hills, NY)/Shmakova triumphed at third double, 8-2, to claim the team doubles point for RU.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25, when it travels to New York City to face Columbia at noon.
