Ajavon Named to BIG EAST, MBWA Honor Rolls

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers sophomore Matee Ajavon (Newark, NJ) was named to the BIG EAST Conference and PrestoSports/Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Women’s Basketball Honor Rolls Feb. 27.
The 5-8 guard was recognized for her play in victories at Marquette (71-50, Feb. 22) and Pittsburgh (65-50, Feb. 25). Against the Golden Eagles, Ajavon posted 18 points, nine assists and two steals, with just one turnover, in 37 minutes of play, while against the Panthers, she had 14 points and a game-high six assists.
No. 6/6 Rutgers (24-3, 16-0 BIG EAST), which wrapped up its second consecutive BIG EAST regular-season title with a 48-42 victory against Connecticut Feb. 27, will be the top seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Scarlet Knights will begin play in the quarterfinal round Sunday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m. RU’s opponent at the Hartford Civic Center will be winner of the first-round game between the eighth and ninth seeds (teams TBD).
