Pondexter Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers fifth-year senior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Feb. 6.
The 5-9 guard led RU to a pair of victories against top-25 competition last week.?? In a 61-51 triumph against No. 25/25 St. John's Feb. 1, Pondexter paced the Scarlet Knights with team highs 24 points, eight rebounds and three steals.?? On Feb. 4, she led all scorers with 27 points, adding five rebounds in a 67-57 victory against No. 13/11 DePaul.?? Pondexter scored 18 of her 27 points in the second half, including nine during RU's 17-7 game-ending run.
Pondexter was previously named the BIG EAST Player of the Week Jan. 2 and Jan. 16, and earned spots on the BIG EAST Honor Roll Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.
No. 8/9 Rutgers (17-3, 9-0 BIG EAST) will finish a seven-day stretch featuring three ranked opponents when RU travels to Storrs, CT, to face No. 4/3 Connecticut (21-2, 10-0 BIG EAST).?? The match-up, which will feature the BIG EAST Conference's only two undefeated teams, will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Gampel Pavilion (10,167).
