Women's Tennis Defeats Cincinnati, 6-1

SYRACUSE, NY - Speared on by singles victories from Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, MA), Dana Gordon (Margate, NJ) and Lauren Edelschein (Medford Lakes, NJ), the Rutgers women’s tennis team improved its BIG EAST record to 3-1 with a 6-1 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday in Syracuse, NY.
The depleted Bearcats were forced to default at fifth and sixth singles as well as third doubles, but Rutgers (5-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) managed to take care of business with straight-set wins at first singles, second singles and fourth singles. Elder-Bush downed Elizabeth Young, 6-1, 6-1, while Gordon disposed of Lindsey Willeford, 6-3, 6-3. The Bearcats’ Jill Klauch picked up UC’s team point when she beat Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ) in a third set super tiebreaker, 10-7. Edelschein rolled past Madison Reasoner at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-3.
In the two doubles matches, Rutgers won by identical 8-6 scores. The Scarlet Knights remain in Central New York on Sunday to face Syracuse at 9:00 p.m.
