Pondexter Named to BIG EAST All-Tournament Team

HARTFORD, CT - For the fourth time during her career, Rutgers’ Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named to the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball All-Tournament Team, the league announced March 7.
A fifth-year senior 5-9 guard, and the 2006 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Pondexter averaged 22.5 points and 2.5 steals in RU’s two tournament games. The Scarlet Knights, who posted a 16-0 mark to win their second straight regular-season title, advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals, before being upset by tourney upstart West Virginia, 56-40.
Pondexter was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Britney White-Davis (West Virginia), Renee Montgomery (Connecticut), Barbara Turner (Connecticut), Chakia Cole (West Virginia) and Most Outstanding Player Ann Strother (Connecticut).
No. 6/9 Rutgers (25-4) will now await the announcement of the 64-team field for the 2006 NCAA Tournament. The bracket will be announced Monday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN. Scarlet Knight fans are invited to watch the show with the team at the Busch Campus Student Center. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
