PISCATAWAY, NJ - Senior offensive tackle Sameeh McDonald of the Rutgers University football team has signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Detroit Lions.
The 6-5, 310-pound McDonald was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Scarlet Knights. As a senior, he started all 12 games at right tackle, helping the Scarlet Knights to a 7-4 mark in the regular season and a berth in the 2005 Insight Bowl.
With McDonald serving as one of the keys up front, the Rutgers' offensive unit finished second in the BIG EAST in total offense (397.1 yards per game), second in passing offense (234.8 yards per game) and third in scoring (28.7 points per game). McDonald, a graduate of West Side High School in Newark, drew starting assignments in 38 games during his Rutgers career.
'I'm excited and I'm happy,' McDonald said. 'Detroit's a great place for me to be, and I can't wait to get out there and start working.'
