RU Opens Season at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Rutgers women's tennis team opened the 2006-07 season at the Princeton Invitational, capturing four doubles wins. The format for the weekend-long event will see each team play one another in doubles and singles, but no team scores will be recorded.
In the first round of doubles, the Scarlet Knights faced off against Ohio State. In the first doubles spot, Anela Dujsic (Mississauga, Ontario) and Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) posted an 8-3 win over the Buckeyes, while Rutgers dropped the other two positions. At third doubles, the freshmen duo of Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) and Christine Tran (Centreville, Va.) dropped a tough 9-7 match.
The second match-up for Rutgers came against host Princeton, where again, the Scarlet Knights came out with one win. In the first doubles slot, Dana Gordon-Hartman (Margate, N.J.) and Arlak posted an 8-5 win, while at second doubles, Lauren Edelschein (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and Elder-Bush fell 8-5 to the Tigers. At the third spot, Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) and Dujsic dropped an 8-3 match to Princeton.
Against Buffalo, Rutgers got its only win from Edelschein and Tran at the number-three position. The duo won a close 9-7 match over the Bulls.
In the final round of competition, the Scarlet Knights recorded a win at third doubles against Yale as Dujsic and Tran won in dramatic fashion, 9-8, with a 7-2 triumph in the tiebreaker. At first doubles, Elder-Bush and Gordon dropped an 8-5 match, while at second, Edelschein and Arlak lost by the same score.
The Scarlet Knights will return to Princeton on Saturday, Sept. 16 and Sunday, Sept. 17 to continue competition in the invitational.
