PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Betsy Yonkman, a member of the Rutgers Women's Basketball staff, was inducted into the Central Michigan Athletic Hall of Fame this past weekend in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
Yonkman, a two-time captain, led CMU to a pair of Mid-American Conference titles during her playing career. She was a first team All-MAC selection in 1985 and 1986 and is one of only three players in school history to earn all-league honors more than once. She added honorable mention All-MAC laurels in 1984.
Yonkman, a native of Kaleva, Mich., held the school scoring record at the completion of her career with a mark of 1,495 points. That total currently ranks fourth all-time and her 734 career rebounds are tenth. She was CMU's leading scorer during two campaigns (1985 and '86), averaging 16.3 points per game each season.
The Chippewas compiled an 85-33 (.720) during her career and posted the best season in school history, a 27-3 record in 1984 that included an undefeated 18-0 MAC slate. CMU won two regular season MAC titles and two tournament crowns during Yonkman's collegiate career.
Yonkman joined the Rutgers Basketball family for the second time this past July. From 1995-01, she was an assistant coach for the Scarlet Knights. She served as recruiting coordinator during her tenure and helped RU compile a 124-64 record during her stay in Piscataway.
