Women's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After posting stellar individual results during the fall tournament season, the Rutgers University women's tennis team has announced its 2008 spring schedule, which includes 11 BIG EAST Conference matches.
The squad will kick off its slate on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when they host the Farleigh Dickinson Knights at 3:00 p.m. Following the season opener, Rutgers will begin a three-match road trip to take on Army, SUNY Binghamton and Lehigh. The Scarlet Knights will then return home on Sunday, Feb. 10 to open up BIG EAST play with back-to-back matches against Cincinnati and Villanova.
March will be highlighted with match-ups against in-state foe Princeton and conference tilts with Georgetown and Pittsburgh. Rutgers will also travel to Marquette to take on the Golden Eagles, the team that knocked the Scarlet Knights out of the BIG EAST Tournament last season. RU will close out the season on Sunday, April 13 against West Virginia.
Rutgers is led by senior Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) and freshman Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas), who have each performed extremely well in the fall. Both players capped off their fall season by qualifying for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional tournament. It was the first time in school history that two players from Rutgers competed in the main draw.
In addition, Paulina Zaretser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Christine Tran (Centerville, Va.) reached the main draw quarterfinals of the second doubles flight at the USTA Invitational. It marked the first time in the five years of the tournament's existence that a Rutgers team has advanced that deep into the draw.
