PISCATAWAY, N.J.- Rutgers Athletics will debut its website for All-America candidates Matee Ajavon, Essence Carson and Kia Vaughn Thursday. The website triplethreat.scarletknights.com is a comprehensive site featuring statistics, photos and video about the Scarlet Knights trio.
The site includes bullet points on the three candidates and will as the season progresses, include game-by-game statistics, highlight video and news and notes on the All-America candidates.The trio were recently named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Ajavon, a senior from Newark, N.J., averaged 12.0 points and a team-best 3.8 assists last winter, despite missing the first four games of the season returning from injury. The 5-8 guard earned a spot on the BIG EAST Second Team was named the Most Outstanding Player of both the BIG EAST Tournament and the Greensboro Region.
Ajavon closed the 2006-07 campaign, averaging 15.2 points, 3.7 assists and 3.5 rebounds in NCAA Tournament play. She scored 20-plus points in six of the final nine games of last season.
Carson, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year the past two straight seasons, averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in 35 games a season ago. The 6-0 versatile guard recorded double-digit scoring in 25 games, collecting four double-doubles.
The Paterson, N.J. native, who paced the team in scoring in 14 games, was a member of the Greensboro Regional All-Tournament team. Carson is one of two returning players in the BIG EAST to score 300 or more points, grab 200 or more rebounds and record 100 or more assists last season.
Vaughn, the only player to start all 36 games last season, led the squad in points (12.8) and rebounds (9.3). In addition, the 6-4 center registered a BIG EAST and team-best 2.56 blocks last year.
The Bronx, NY. Product notched 12 double-doubles on the year. She was named to several postseason squads, including the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team, the Greensboro All-Region team and the Final Four All-Tournament team. Vaughn broke the Rutgers record for rebounds in a single NCAA Tournament run with 47 boards. Sue Wicks held the previous mark of 39 caroms in 1987 (three games).
Rutgers, which returns nine letterwinners and its entire starting line-up, begins its season on Nov. 8 in an exhibition match-up with China.
