Rutgers Falls in Tightly Contested Match to Lehigh
Nov 30 | Wrestling
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Rutgers wrestling program, under the guidance of first-year coach Scott Goodale, fell to Lehigh 24-13 in both schools' first EIWA match of the season. The Mountain Hawks won seven of the 10 bouts to come away with the victory.
"I felt we could have won the match," said Goodale. "We don't believe in moral victories but I thought we fought hard. We just couldn't get the job done. We are 0-2, but we will continue to work hard and I know it will pay off."
Four bouts into the contest, the Scarlet Knights (0-2, 0-1) took a 10-6 lead over Lehigh (3-4, 1-0). Ryan Fikslin (Landing, N.J.) scored a fall against Mitch Berger and No. 19 Steve Adamcsik (Chester, N.J.) earned a 13-4 major decision on the Mountain Hawks' Jeff Santo. But Lehigh would win the next five bouts to build a 24-10 lead. Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) won the final bout of the night to give Rutgers their final three points.
RU will next compete in the Penn State Open on Sunday, Dec. 2, in State College, Pa., at 3:00 p.m.
