Rutgers Gymnastics Inks Melanie Brother

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's gymnastics head coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton announced the signing of Melanie Brother (Crofton, Md.) to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. Brother will enroll at the school in the fall 2008 semester.
"Our coaching staff and team are very excited that these standout student-athletes have chosen to attend Rutgers University," said Chollet-Norton. "They are excellent students and gymnasts who will be a great asset to our program."
Brother, who is the first member of Chollet-Norton's class of 2012, attends Arundel High School in Gambrills Md. Brother is a Level 10 gymnast who trains at Docksider Gymnastics under the direction of Bob Ouellette. She has qualified for the Level 10 USA Regional's each of the past two years and placed seventh last year on uneven bars at the regional competition.
In 2004, Brother qualified to the Level 9 USA Eastern Nationals where she placed ninth in the vault. Brother is also a standout in the classroom, where she ranks 10th in her class. She will enter the highly-regarded Rutgers Engineering program in the fall of 2008.
New Jersey standout Stacy Ruderman (Cherry Hill, N.J.) also committed to Rutgers as a walk on for the 2008-09 academic year. Ruderman attends Cherry Hill East High School and trains at the Will Moor School of Gymnastics under the direction of Kim Bonus, where she is a USA Level 10 competitor. In 2005, she qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals Championship where she took eighth on balance beam.
Rutgers will open the 2008 campaign at the Livingston Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1:00 p.m. against New Hampshire and Bridgeport.
