PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers football team will be named the Division I-A Team of the Year by the ECAC Thursday evening at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet Presented by FieldTurf Tarkett at the Pegasus Restaurant at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The Scarlet Knights will earn their second "Team of the Year" award this postseason after the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association named the Scarlet Knights their "Team of the Year" in January.
The Scarlet Knights put together a terrific season in 2006, finishing 11-2 overall and 12th in the final Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls. Rutgers defeated Kansas State 37-10 in the Texas Bowl to complete the year.
Four players collected All-America honors (FB Brian Leonard, TB Ray Rice, DT Eric Foster and PK Jeremy Ito) while head coach Greg Schiano was named National Coach of the Year by six different media outlets and was the BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
In addition, 14 Scarlet Knights earned All-BIG EAST conference honors while seven players were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team.
