Women's Golf Opens Spring Season With Ninth-Place Finish

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Senior co-captain Lauren Braswell (Basking Ridge, N.J.) tied for 20th overall as the Rutgers women's golf team placed ninth at the season-opening Cincinnati Spring Invitational in Crystal River, Fla., on Friday and Saturday. The teams played 18 holes each day on the par-72, 6,074-yard Plantation Inn Golf Course.
Braswell's scores of 77 and 84, respectively, at the two-day event led the Rutgers effort, while sophomore Lauren Huhnerkoch (Burnsville, Minn.) was the Scarlet Knights' next finisher, tying for the 35th spot. Huhnerkoch dropped eight shots off her opening round score on the second day, posting scores of 87 and 79.
Senior co-captain Ashley Fowler (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took 38th place, junior Jen Rudy (Berlin, Conn.) placed 52nd, and sophomore Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) took 53rd to round out the lineup for Rutgers, which finished with an overall team score of 678. RESULTS
Florida Atlantic took first place in the team scoring with a score of 620 over the two days, followed by Princeton, just two strokes behind, and Middle Tennessee State. FAU was in third place after round one, while Middle Tennessee led by just one shot over Princeton. But Florida Atlantic's 309 in the second round propelled the Owls to the team title.
The Scarlet Knights were just five shots off eighth-place Siena.
Individually, FAU's Praewnapa Phol-Uaypom took first place with scores of 75 and 71 for a total of 146. Illinois' Seul Ki Park took second, five shots off that mark with scores of 74 and 77 for a total of 151.
The Scarlet Knights will next take part in the Georgetown Invitational in Leesburg, VA on Sunday, April 1, and Monday, April 2. The men's team opens its spring at the Lacrosse Homes Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1, in Towson, Md.
