Piscataway, N.J. - Rutgers women's basketball will host the University of Maryland in the Sixth Annual Jimmy V Classic, it was announced on Wednesday by the V Foundation.
The contest will take place at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on December 3 at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2. It marks the second straight season the Scarlet Knights have been a participant in the annual event which benefits the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The organization was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and Rutgers alumni.
The Scarlet Knights enjoyed unparalleled success on the court in 2006-07, advancing to the NCAA championship game for the first time in school history. Rutgers concluded the regular season with a 27-9 record, winning the program's first BIG EAST tournament title. The Scarlet Knights return all five starters and nine team members next fall.
The match-up with the Terps is the first since December, 22 1998, an 81-61 RU victory in College Park, Md. The teams have previously faced off 27 times on the hardcourt.
